Virginia Gay Hospital was always an essential part of the life of Dr. Tony Anthony, says his widow, Dorothy.
“He worked here for 45 years, and he was in the Nursing and Rehab Unit for four years,” said Dorothy, who also spent many years as a volunteer at the facility.
A new scholarship in Dr. Anthony’s memory will now help the nurses at the VGH Nursing and Rehab advance their education. Each year, a $500 scholarship will go towards the educational expenses of nurses there who are seeking higher education in the nursing field.
The first recipient is Jodi Bearbower, an LPN at the center who plans to finish her RN training next year, and plans to continue working for VGH.
“We are happy to help someone who will be staying in Vinton,” says Mrs. Anthony.
